From Jasper (the county seat) out to Kirbyville, Buna, and Brookeland, this is 938.66 square miles of East Texas Piney Woods timberland (U.S. Census Bureau, 2020) bordering Sam Rayburn Reservoir — commercial timber tracts, lakefront recreational acreage, and small rural parcels all mixed together. PlaceAcre buys here directly with a cash offer in 24-48 hours: no agents, no fees, no repairs required.
East Texas Piney Woods timberland near Sam Rayburn Reservoir.
Jasper County sits in the heart of the East Texas Piney Woods, drained by the Angelina River, which feeds Sam Rayburn Reservoir — impounded in the mid-1960s and today one of Texas's premier largemouth bass fisheries, hosting 300+ fishing tournaments a year. A section of the Big Thicket National Preserve extends into the county, and the landscape runs from planted pine and mixed hardwood bottoms to open pasture and small homestead tracts.
Buyer demand here comes from three directions: timber companies looking for plantable and merchantable acreage, recreational and hunting buyers after wooded tracts with cover and water, and lake-property investors chasing Sam Rayburn frontage and access tracts. That mix keeps Jasper County land moving even when broader farmland markets slow down — which is why we buy here directly rather than waiting on a listing.

The most recent full-year national figure comes from USDA: U.S. farm real estate averaged $4,350 per acre in 2025, up 4.3% year-over-year. The 2026 report isn't published until August 2026, so that 2025 number is the current benchmark for any 2026 conversation about land values.
East Texas timberland and recreational or lake-adjacent tracts in counties like Jasper typically carry a premium over row-crop-only land, because they can produce both recreational value and timber-harvest income from the same acres. Proximity to Sam Rayburn Reservoir, road frontage, and merchantable timber all move the number materially on a per-acre basis.

Jasper County was one of the original 23 counties created when the Republic of Texas was organized in 1836. The town — originally "Bevil Settlement," founded circa 1824 by pioneer John Bevil — was renamed Jasper in 1835 in honor of Sergeant William Jasper, a hero of the American Revolution killed at the 1779 Siege of Savannah.
The current Jasper County Courthouse, built of locally made red brick in an Italianate style designed by architect Eugene T. Heiner, was completed in 1889. It's the third courthouse on the same downtown square — the first, a log structure, burned in 1849.
Sam Rayburn Reservoir, formed by the Sam Rayburn Dam on the Angelina River, began generating hydroelectric power on July 1, 1966. Its two generators produce roughly 52,000 kilowatts, marketed by the Southwestern Power Administration.
Part of the 84,550-acre Big Thicket National Preserve — established by Congress in 1974 as the nation's first "national preserve" — extends into Jasper County. The Big Thicket is known for its unusual ecological diversity, sometimes called the "biological crossroads of North America."
